Endodontics (Root Canal Therapy)

What is Root Canal Therapy (R.C.T)?

Root Canal Therapy is a procedure used to save the teeth which otherwise would be lost to decay, injury or disease.

What is involved in the procedure?

RCT may be done over a single or multiple visits. The root canal is cleaned and disinfected, then finally a sterile filling is placed to seal the canal. It is necessary to take some diagnostic and treatment x-rays throughout the entire procedure. The tooth is finally filled with a permanent restoration (filling) however; it is strongly recommended to place a crown over such a tooth to provide adequate strength and a good seal.

What will it cost?

RCT may seem more expensive initially, but is generally more effective than having the tooth removed and essentially losing chewing efficiency. Having an artificial replacement and its maintenance would probably cost more in the long run. Your dentist will be happy to provide you with a quotation of all proposed treatment at the time of your initial consultation, so that you may make an informed decision.
