Correct Tooth Brushing Technique
How to Brush Properly
Place the toothbrush at a 45-degree angle over your teeth and gums, using a small amount of toothpaste (See Image 1)
Maintaining a 45-degree angle, gently move the toothbrush up and down, or in small circular motions, on the front and rear surfaces of your teeth. Make sure to include the edges of your gums, as this area is prone to build up of plaque (See Image/s 2-4)
On the top biting surfaces of your teeth, use a little more pressure, moving the toothbrush back and forth. (See Image 5)
Proper brushing of all teeth and gums will take approximately 3-5 minutes
Always use a soft toothbrush and avoid using horizontal scrubbing motion, as this may cause the gums to recede, be abrasive to the teeth and lead to sensitivity.
Your dentist can give you further oral hygiene instruction at you next dental check-up.
