To achieve the best outline for a dental implant, after tooth removal, a Socket Preservation is carried out.
The bone volume is essential, as dental implants integrate into the bone structure.
Without socket preservation, the bone will reshape and decrease in volume. Hence, socket preservation is recommended immediately after the tooth extraction to maintain as much volume as possible.
Socket preservation is placing a material usually bone into the socket.
Generally, 2 types of bone are used for socket preservation,
- Oravance (Allograft) – is bone without any cells sourced from other humans or
- Geistlich Bio-Oss® (Xenograft) – is bone without any cells sourced from Bovine.
